I have to say, I really loved some of the color schemes our October brides chose last year.  Kerry and Rob chose a combo of french blue and deep red as theirs, perhaps influenced by their VERY design savvy planner, Ms. Sarah True!  It was a fantastic color combination for flowers.

We used deep red dahlias, red ranunculus, dark red berries, pale blue delphinium, ivory spray roses and white daisies.  Daisies were one of Kerry’s favorite flowers so it was an absolute must!

Kerry wanted simple hand tied bouquets wrapped in burlap.  We used soft colors and kept them on the smaller side.  They were perfect against their navy dresses and Kerry’s beautiful lace gown.

Centerpieces were in black iron compotes for the round tables, and several glass vases lined the farmhouse tables.

Rustic touches were in abundance~ haystacks for seating around the fire, wooden and chalkboard signs, pewter lanterns and mason jars for drinking cider.  Absolute perfection for a Fall vineyard wedding!

An array of amazing roaring 20′s inspired gowns and head pieces were featured from our stylish friend, Beth Chapman of The White Dress by the Shore.

The fabulous table settings and details were planned by Ms. Candice Coppola of Jubilee Events, along with beautiful paper from Coral Pheasant.

Did I mention the art deco cake from Ana Parzych?  Gorge!

Today I’m excited to share Jeanine and Joe’s October wedding at the stunning Eolia mansion!

Where do I begin?  Jeanine and I began chatting months and months before the big day.  She always had her vision of muted colors in green, grey, ivory and blue.  And that stunning Vera dress Jeanine wore?  That pretty much set the tone for this elegant and romantic reception.

Their wedding was in October, so I loved using a color palette atypical of the season.  Her only real Fall decor?  Lots of white mini pumpkins that we placed among the mantles and steps.  They even had sugar pumpkins for the cake!  Adorable!

Jeanine  carried a lush bouquet filled with garden roses, ranunculus, anemones, lisianthus, freesia, succulents and thistle.  Her bridesmaid’s carried similar versions but with more blue, which was perfect against their pale grey dresses.

Centerpieces were a mix of highs and lows~ tall trumpet vases with mounds of hydrangeas, roses, thistle, lisianthus and curly willow and low cylinder vases filled with similar flowers.  Loads of candles everywhere.

SO here’s the little run down of what I look for in a designer.    Oh, and while we’ve had great luck with some freelancers who’ve had little or no experience, we are going to seek out those with some floral experience first.

Here is what I expect from our designers:

wire flowers using accurate techniques

create hand tied bouquets and table pieces with little or no hand-holding

capable of working on larger scale pieces

process flowers, wash buckets, vases and the like on a regular basis

have the strength to lift heavy objects when setting up~ some urns weigh 40-50lbs!

set up at event sites with accuracy and in a timely manner

comfortable driving a truck or cargo van to locations

a level-headed personality, team player attitude and presentable appearance

We are a great little team.  The work may be hard, but it’s also fun.  We get to do fun projects in between all of the weddings that are in store for us this season.  All of us work together to get the jobs done.  Divadom does not exist here.

This is a primarily seasonal job.  You’d be working as a full time freelancer during the months of May-October, with some holiday work afterwards.  Saturdays and some Sundays are an absolute must during the wedding season.

But now for Erin and Jay.  Such a sweet, adorable couple.  Seems so long ago when we first met!

Erin and Jay got married at the beautiful Jonathan Edwards winery.  They had lovely personal touches throughout their wedding~ pressing grapes during their ceremony, Jay whipped up a song to sing to Erin, even a rainbow appeared after they said their ‘I do’s'!!!

Erin’s flowers were soft blushes, greys and ivories with curly willow entwined.  Her gals wore deep crimson dresses and carried nosegays full of peach roses, cream colored feverfew, burgundy cotinus foliage and grey brunia berries.

The tent was filled with long tables so we broke them up with weathered wooden planters and apothecary bottles filled with similar flowers as the bridesmaid’s as well as touches of golden yellow.  The planters and bottles were the perfect accompaniment to the rustic feel of the wedding.  We also added in taller vases throughout the tent filled with white larkspur.

The mix of colors worked perfectly!

Erin and Jay were married just days before Superstorm Sandy touched our area, but it could not have been a more perfect Fall day for those two.

Michelle and Ben~our sweet couple that were married on June 23rd of last year at the private home of Ben’s parents.  An absolutely breathtaking view of the Long Island sound was the scene for their backyard tented wedding.  “Backyard” is an understatement considering how sprawling the lawn was with the endless water view!

I have a personal connection to this family too!  Ben’s father was my Obstetrician and delivered my darling Emi, 9 1/2 years ago!

Ben was in his dress whites, while Michelle had not only 1, but 3 dress changes!  She looked stunning in every one of them!  I just loved Michelle’s reaction when we delivered her bouquet!  She was simply beaming!

Their fab planner,Meena from 5th Avenue Events helped execute this one and added personal touches, along with our catering friends from A Thyme to Cook and lighting/sound from Power Posse.

And wedding number two from Stacey is the colorful, fun wedding of Lyndsay and James!   Wow, these two make for one striking couple!

While we provided only personal flowers for this wedding, Lyndsay could not have chosen more perfect colors for her June wedding!  Lyndsay carried vibrant coral and magenta peonies, peach garden roses, yellow ranunculus, peach tulips, and magenta stock.  Her nine bridesmaids carried similar versions while the gents wore awesome yellow chucks and cheerful ranunculus boutonnieres to match!

But there’s lots to do still~ the new website is well on it’s way.  I can’t wait to share!   And we are adding finishing touches to our new card and logo.  It’s been a pretty productive Winter!

As I’ve been pouring through the countless weddings we’ve done to pull images for the new site, I realized I never shared this one with you!

The lovely Lois and her groom Stephen!  Such a sweet couple.  I know I say that often~ we are just so lucky to work with so many sweet and amazing couples!!!

Anyhoo, loved working with Lois and Stephen!  She wanted bright blooms and nautical touches.  They got married at the Mystic Seaport after all!   We used navy and white striped ribbon throughout.  The stripes looked so crisp against the various bright pink and peach garden roses, dahlias and berries that Lois’ maids carried.  Even the cake had striped ribbon coming down the center!

Lois carried a clean hand tied bouquet of various white, peach and ivory roses, spray roses, white gardenias and accents of peach berries.

Centerpieces were our signature boxes filled with a mix of all the bright blooms as well as green and white hydrangeas.

This one is a beauty if you love vintage details like we do!  Ei-Ling and Jason are our cute creative New Yorkers~ she in advertising, he at a major cool clothing company, that came up this way to have their wedding at the beloved Saltwater Farm.

October is such a great time of year to get married.  There is beautiful weather, clear blue skies, and really, the color choices for flowers are endless.  Ei-Ling chose a palette of purples, lavender, blush and ivory.    Various textural flowers were used to create interest and lush compositions for their centerpieces.

This wedding was so jammed packed with amazing details!  Ei-Ling not only enlisted the help of True Event, but used gorgeous vintage china and other rental items from Something Borrowed, as well as lighting and ceremony decor from Ryan Designs!

This wedding ought to cheer us up!  I know it does for me!  Shiri and Ashwin were the cutest!  She was a doll and was so filled with joy planning her wedding.  I just loved working with her.

She loved bright colors and wanted an interesting mix of flowers.  And since she was at the beginning of July, we made sure we used one of our absolute favorites around here, the coral charm peony!    Coral peonies, magenta stock, yellow Billy Balls, peach garden roses, and succulents to name a few, were used throughout the day.

We also added the cream colored phaleonopsis orchid for Shiri’s bouquet, which was used for Ashwin’s boutonniere too.

Their reception took place under a coral colored tent at the beautiful and stately Ocean Cliff in Newport.  The wedding was so big, the mansion was just used for dancing!

It was a perfect day and an evening that could only be topped off with fireworks in the distance!

Shiri and Ashwin enlisted a great team with True Event planning, Ryan Designs on tent decor, and Jennie Fresa for beauty!
