fairy tale ball recap

Saturday night was a whirlwind of fun!  Of course, it always starts out with loads of hard work and set up, but the pay off is so worth it.  Saturday night was the annual Fairy Tale ball fundraiser for the SE CT children’s museum, with the tireless and inspiring Josh Chalmers at the helm.

Our table inspiration came from a childhood story called Momotaru-san, or “peach boy” in English.  It’s been nearly 9 years since my mom’s untimely passing, but her memory and her culture still live on and I am always(consciously or not) finding ways to show it through my work.  I think mom would’ve been proud.

It was a modern interpretation of Asian-inspired.  We used a gorgeous color palette of orange, peach, rust, and pale blue, along with bamboo and rattan elements.  Special thanks to Sarah for assisting me with rentals of the linen, napkins, the fantastic bamboo chairs, and chargers.

Hubby/designer Gary drew in a flash the awesome depictions of Momotaru-san’s 3 friends~ the dog, monkey and pheasant.  I mean, he literally did them the night before because I felt we just needed something in our backdrop!!!

Carol sewed the gorgeous fabric runner that I purchased from Japan.  This fabric is quite often used for children’s obi’s.   She also strung the orchids you see hanging from orange parasols, and we had layers of peaches, peach roses and peach mums all along the table.

While we wait with baited breath to see the images from the talented, Matt Grazier, here are a few of ours during set up!

And while I unfortunately don’t have images of all the other AH-mazing tables, I just want to say congratulations to all the incredible designers on board!!!   Each table was unique, extraordinary and inspiring.  What a magical evening!!!
